Good news is such a rarity these days, but the falling-out between Trump and war-monger Bolton is cause for celebration.

Left to Bolton, the USA would now be at war with Iran and North Korea, stepping up its involvement in Afghanistan and supporting proxies in South America blockading and interfering in Venezuela.

It was no surprise that Trump appointed Bolton; they are birds of a feather.

So why has Bolton got the push?

We must remember that, during his election campaign, trump undertook to reduce US entanglement in foreign wars.  Since his election, he has committed to spending billions on new nuclear weapons systems.  He also has learned that China is America’s biggest challenge.

Presumably, the anti-Bolton camp in the White House advised the concentration of diplomatic activity and resources on the main challenges, rather than fighting on all fronts.

So, although there is still plenty of belligerence in Washington, the departure of Bolton is good news.

Bad news, very bad news is Netanyahu’s latest move against the Palestinians in Israel.

He is desperate, in light of the corruption charges against himself and his greedy missus, to get immunity by retaining power. In order to do this, he needs a parliamentary coalition with the extreme rightwing parties in the Knesset. By taking over the Jordan valley he will win the backing of the racist, murderous settlers and their political parties.  He and his American backers have abandoned all pretence of an interest in a two-state solution.
