Dear Bob
I recently wrote urging a 100 per cent pay rise for front-line NHS staff. I expected you and the Health Secretary (if he saw the letter) to set it aside as the meanderings of a fantasist.
Now Boris Johnson’s intensive care nurse has resigned, having had more than enough.
Clapping and eulogising is not enough; it does not pay the bills and it does not compensate for the stress, unpaid overtime and distress of seeing so many patients die. Millions stood and clapped on the street.  All too soon, that elation has been forgotten and the government is let off the hook. The British public have a very short political memory.
The present pay offer is derisory.
Billions were found for emergency supplies of PPE, ventilators and Nightingale hospitals and so it would not be impossible to find money to give the heroes of the hour decent recognition.
Yours sincerely
