Che Guevara
Born Argentina, trained as a doctor, closely associated with the Cuban revolution, assassinated 50 years ago in Bolivia by CIA stooges. He famously said: “If you tremble with indignation at every injustice, then you are a comrade of mine.” I do and so I am.
In order to get away with massive tax fraud and evasion, you have to be able to do it on a massive scale. This state of affairs began under Blair’s New Labour, was perpetuated by Gordon Brown and has continued under the coalition government and Theresa May.
In the Commons yesterday (1st November) Jeremy Corbyn pointed out that, “Estimates of tax-dodging range from£34 billion to £119 billion annually. If HMRC had captured that money, the entire austerity programme would have been unnecessary. He went on to claim that since 2009 the amount of tax paid by the super-rich has fallen from£4.4 billion to £3.5 billion. In other words, there’s one rule for the super-rich and another for the rest of us. And the Daily Mail (from the same stable as Rothermere’s pro-Hitler newspaper) consistently labels benefit claimants as scroungers.
Yes, I tremble at this gross injustice.
