The current Proms season alone more than earns my TV licence fee, but why does the Beeb give so much air-time to these resurrected fossils, Cable and Bliar? This week, in interview with Peter Hennessy, Bliar is to be given yet another opportunity to rehabilitate himself with all his “in good faith” bullshit. Faith is what you take to be true, such as the existence of a god, or the presence of WMD in Iraq, regardless of whether there is sound proof or real evidence, so that it is an oxymoron to prefix it with the adjective “good”. Bliar should be kept in his box with a stake through his heart and Cable should devote his time to enjoying his second career in sequins and taffeta.
Also getting up my nose is all this hypocritical criticism of Corbyn for not joining the chorus of disapproval of the Venezuelan regime, as voiced by Vince Cable and right-wing Labour MPs. We have in Venezuela a would-be socialist government which inherited from the previous mafiosi succession of governments a severely distorted economy totally dependent on oil revenues. It has striven to improve the lot of the people, but is now faced with the stupendous drop in oil income. That, plus the antagonism of the USA, which has never dropped the Munro doctrine, is the root cause of economic collapse, deep indebtedness, capitalist sabotage from within and consequent severe social unrest, some of it promoted by the CIA.
Instead of damning a South American country for breaking the mould by rejecting neo-liberal control and US hegemony, the Blairite MPs and their Tory and Lib-Dem close allies should be concentrating their fire on the Turkish Hitler. Erdogan, who has grabbed undiluted power by winning the support of the most backward, obscurantist sections of the population, ruthlessly silencing all opposition, imprisoning and sacking tens of thousands and resuming war against the Kurdish minority, while backing islamist murderers in Syria and building, with British support, the biggest armed forces in Europe and second only to China in Asia.
The UK government is providing arms to despots all over the world, including Turkey the medieval rulers of Saudi Arabia. I have reservations about Venezuelan government policies of late, but my main fire is reserved for the backers of fascism in Turkey and Islamism in Saudi.
What a state of moral depravity some of our politicians are in.
Just came across your blog by chance. Brilliant and very informative. It’s good to have a record of just how dreadful the Tories have been and of the skulduggery of Starmer and his ilk.
I have shared it widely.
