All over the country, lawns and verges are being left uncut, at least for the month of May, in order to see what plants surprisingly spring up and in order to give pollinating insects a feast.

Not on Chislehurst Common.  Here the scalping of grassed areas goes on. The sit-on mower careers around grassed areas, cutting down the buttercups, Cow parsley, Sheep’s fescue, bugle and Star of Jerusalem and grasses, cutting the plants to the bone.

Why?  What the hell are the trustees up to?  What objection have they to no-mow-May and the nationwide drive to resurrect our flowering meadows?

Sack ‘em and bring in fresh blood with a passion for the greening of Britain, starting with our corner of it.
